Personal growth is the idea that we are constantly growing all the time. We need to never stop practicing what we do or trying to learn new skills. Personal growth covers all aspects of your life from financial, to physical, to everything in between. If there’s an area of your life that you feel needs improvement then personal growth is the path for you.
A lot of personal growth is inspired by people experiencing a life changing moment. Something goes wrong and they want to improve to make them go right the next time. Or they feel there’s a need to grow and learn new skills. By going through personal growth you improve all areas of your life and the results become evident to both you and everyone around you. You can improve your relationships with people, improve your financial situation, and just improve your life in general through personal growth.
Find The Right Path
The first step on the journey of personal growth is finding which path is the right one for you. You can’t start a journey without knowing your destination. Where is it that you want to go? Are you trying to learn a new skill, or do some major life accomplishment? When you know the goal you can work out the path.
You can spend a long time trying to go down the wrong path. Remember that things that work for other people might not work for you. By following the path someone else set out you’re following their path, not yours. It could take you nowhere and take a long time for you to realise that’s exactly where you’re going; nowhere.
The Process
Each and every one of us is unique. We all have individual circumstances that we need to consider. What works for one person won’t work for everyone. It’s thanks to this that there is no such thing as a one stop solution. But there are guidelines to help people work out their individual solution.
Because each path is different you need to work out your path for yourself. It’s easy to do this however. There are a series of questions you need to ask yourself. When you have the information you can forge a path. Ask yourself;
- Where am I currently at?
Ask yourself where you are right now. Evaluate your strengths and weaknesses. Also think about the good and bad habits you have.
- Where do you want to be?
It is vital to know your goal. You need to know just what you want to improve and, more importantly, why you want to improve that specific area. Knowing the why will help you set a goal and stay motivated.
- How do you get there?
Now that you know what you want you can work out what you need to do. What knowledge and experience do you need? When you work that out you can find plenty of resources to help you out. Maybe you even need to take the step of going back to college and studying a different degree. Though there’s a good chance you can find a great resource online or in a library.
- How long will it take?
Now you know your goals it’s time to work out a plausible timeline. Think about how long each step on the path will take and make up a full plan. Writing down your goals will help you achieve them. It’s an important part of therapy to write down plans and follow them. Just having a plan compels you to follow it through.
Personal growth is a very important step in self-improvement and self-help. It’s important to know you need to change but it’s also very important to know what to change and how to change it. Wanting something is only first step. Actually seizing it is the main goal.
When you begin the journey of personal growth you unlock unlimited potential. When you know how to set goals and follow them through you gain the ability to do practically anything you can really set your mind to. Remember that personal growth never really stops. You learn through your entire life and you can always learn something new. So it’s important to know how to do it.
